How to clean a xbox 360 game disc?

My lord of the rings: the battle for middle earth II game is still working, but goes slow. I bought it used, but I’ve had the same game in mint condition and it was running just fine. I assume that the slow performance is due to the severe scratches on the disc. My question is obvious: how do I clean it to make it do a bit better; I’m not even asking to remove the scratches. Thanks, and don’t say “use toothpaste” or “buy a disc kit/cleaner.” I have not the money to spend on it.

Okay – here’s the thing. If your disc is dirty it’s cleanable. Soap and lukewarm water. Pat dry with a soft towel or paper towel.

If your disk is slightly scratched – you might be able to get it going again. A paste made of baking soda (or Bon Ami) and water rubbed gently in can help sometimes. Less abrasive than toothpaste.

If your disc is severely scratched there is not a whole heck of a lot anyone can do – the surface is too badly damaged, and you don’t want to spend money.

The idea with a scratched disc is to try and buff out the imperfections so the laser can read the data surface again. That’s why people will tell you “use toothpaste” or “buy a disc kit/cleaner.”

Floor and car wax might have a chance, but have a higher chance of damaging your system from residues. Not recommended.
